Specifications
SS Grace is a classic schooner offered as a restoration-forward vessel. The specifications and inventory below are presented transparently to reflect her current condition, systems, and onboard equipment, and are intended for buyers who appreciate traditional boats and hands-on ownership. As-is sale, we are not responsible for any repairs or surveys.
Condition and Use
SS Grace is best suited for protected waters, day sailing, and simple overnight outings. She is not intended for open-ocean passages. She will appeal most to a classic boat enthusiast who enjoys restoration projects and values character, history, and traditional design over turnkey convenience.
The vessel is being offered honestly in her current condition, with the understanding that continued maintenance and restoration are part of ownership. This boat does need some love, but fortunately a lot of replacement parts and upgrades have already been purchased!
- (August 2020) discovered some rot under the port forward port light in the main cabin; this is currently the only rot that I am aware of. Boat will come with plywood for making plugs and mahogony veneer plywood for making interior port light frames.
- Comes with 8 bronze port lights ready for installation. Began replacing them in 2017 but didn’t get very far. Some of the old port lights were leaking because the depth of the port lights were less than the thickness of the cabin wall. The new bronze port lights won’t have that issue. 6 are operable and come with screens, 2 are fixed.
- 2019 minor repair with “git rot” to the end of the main boom (only impacts the last 1′ of the boom). Main will need replacement at some point.
- Jib will need replacement at some point but had a major repair done.
- Replaced the main cabin hatch with new custom plexiglass in 2022. The aft cabin needs to be installed, but the custom piece is cut with holes and ready to go.
